Large-format tiles can create broad, continuous-looking surfaces, but the result depends on the room and the installation. Before falling in love with one size, look at where the joints and cuts would actually fall.
Draw the room accurately
Record wall lengths, door positions and any fixed fittings. Ask your installer to sketch a proposed layout, including visible cuts at the edges. A large tile that leaves narrow strips in prominent places may be less successful than a smaller format with a more balanced arrangement.
Check access and preparation
The tiles must reach the room and be handled safely. Stairs, tight corners and upper floors all matter. Your installer should assess the substrate, preparation, adhesive system and handling requirements for the exact product. Include those costs when comparing formats.
Keep the joint decision realistic
A large-format surface still needs correctly specified joints. Ask about the manufacturer’s recommendations and the installer’s plan for movement joints and transitions. Choose grout colour alongside the tile, then review a small test area if the visual effect is important to you.
