Timber-inspired and stone-inspired tiles can take a room in different directions. Before comparing samples, look at the furniture and fixed finishes you already have. The floor needs to work with those pieces every day.
When a timber-inspired look appeals
A wood-look surface can introduce a grain pattern and a warmer visual rhythm. Compare its tone with doors, cabinets and furniture. Several similar but slightly different timber colours can compete, so try a clear relationship between them rather than aiming for a near match.
When a stone-inspired look appeals
A stone-look surface can provide a quieter backdrop or a more expressive pattern, depending on the collection. Compare the amount of variation across several tile faces. In a busy room, a restrained pattern may leave more room for textiles and furniture to do the work.
Compare the practical specification
The appearance does not tell you everything about the product. Confirm material, finish, intended use and care instructions. Ask your installer about the proposed format, laying pattern and grout joints. A sample viewed alone cannot show how a repeating pattern will behave across the floor.
